Spanish in the Summer Time: The Pool/la piscina
The hot, summer doldrums are here not only for you, but for your kids. Why not spice things up and make it all more picante? Going to the pool is not so exciting now, but you can put a different twist on it en español. Teach or review pool and summer vocabulary with your kids.
Spanish Pool Vocabulary
The pool= la piscina (la pees-eeh-nah) /la alberca
The bathing suit= el traje de baño (el traheh de banyo)
The towel= la toalla (la toaya)
The sunscreen= la crema protectora
The pool toys- los juguetes para la piscina (los juh-geh-tehs_
The sunglasses-= las gafas del sol
The water- el agua (el awah)
The sun=el sol
You can introduce the pool gear with the Spanish names before you go and offer kids incentives (you probably have many in your arsenal) for remembering the names. Double the incentives for any independent use of the new words!
Spanish Phrases for the Pool
Disembarking from the car with everyone and all of the gear is also a great time to practice the Spanish words with some phrases.
Give me the= Dame el or la . . (Dah-meh) Dame la toalla.
Pass me the= Pásame el or la . .(Pah-sah-meh) Pásame la crema protectora.
Carry the= Lleva el or las (Yeh-vah . .) Lleva los juguetes.
So, go for it! Disfruta la piscina en español!
